Britney Spears Says 'Till The World Ends' Has 'Good Energy'

'If it puts me in a good mood, it clicks for me,' singer tells Ryan Seacrest of Ke$ha-penned track.By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears got her fans amped up for her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale, when she released its second single, "Till the World Ends," on Thursday. The chugging, Ke$ha-penned club banger is all about getting your dance on. And when Spears stopped by Ryan Seacrest's radio show on Friday (March 4), she admitted that the song just felt right for her as soon as she heard it.
" 'Till the World Ends' is fun! It's fun. I like it. It's good energy," she said of the track, which was produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Billboard. "I'm a vibe person, and I think I love good-mood songs, and if it puts me in a good mood, it clicks for me."
As for the album, which already spawned a chart-topping single, "Hold It Against Me," she teased, "I think it's my best work yet. I listened to it on the way over here. It's definitely something you want to work out to. ... And I'm a dancer, so it's definitely something I can work with."
"Oh my God! Will.i.am is amazing," Spears said of the producer, who teased the track "The Big Fat Bass" recently. "He's so much fun and he's funny and he's a charm. His music is so much fun. When they told me I was going to be working with him, I couldn't wait. If it gets you going, you get excited, and he has that type of energy."
In addition to talking about the album, Spears also shared plans for a summer tour. And she talked about how she's keeping in shape these days as she amps up to promote the album, which drops March 29. "I have a trainer. [I go] on the treadmill for 30 minutes and we do a lot of cardio, running," she explained. "He kicks my butt. You pay to hate your trainer!"
It seems that the workout regimen has also had an effect on her beau, talent agent Jason Trawick, who, according to Seacrest, was "pudgy" before he hooked up with the pop star. "He wasn't pudgy," she laughed. "He wasn't pudgy. He is definitely ripped. He just got on this health kick. I guess he's on a health kick. He eats what he wants."

Britney Spears' 'Till The World Ends' Hits Web

Femme Fatale's second single was penned by Ke$ha.By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Jive

Britney Spears' new single, "Till the World Ends," sounds poised to be a club smash. The Ke$ha-written, Dr. Luke/Max Martin-produced track was posted by Perez Hilton on Thursday afternoon (March 3), after speculation earlier in the day that the song would hit radio next week.
"Till the World Ends" is a swirling, "beat the beat" track, ready for late nights spent "dancing till the world ends" as she sings on the fast-paced party jam. "This kitten got your tongue tied in knots I see/ Spit it out 'cause I'm dying for company," a confident Spears purrs.
As the song slows for a moment — during a break before she moves her way to the chorus — she sings, "I can't take it take it take no more/ Never felt like felt like this before/ Come on get me get me on the floor/ DJ, what you what you waiting for?" she teases.
The beat chugs in the background as synths play with Spears' sex-kitten delivery of lines like "Watch me move/ When I lose, when I lose it hard/ Get you off with a touch/ Dancing in the dark.
"See the sunlight/ We ain't stopping/ Keep on dancing till the world ends/ If you feel it/ Let it happen/ Keep on dancing till the world ends," she sings as the song breaks down, fading out for a brief moment (revealing her signature breathiness), and then coming back in as she repeats those final lines again to close the song.
Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com, noting that it is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. "That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world," she said. "You know, when you go out, and you're having an amazing, magical night and you don't want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends."
"Till the World Ends" is the second single from Femme Fatale, set to drop March 29. Its lead single, "Hold It Against Me," was an equally club-friendly jam by Luke and Martin, who are overseeing production on the album.

Britney Spears Teases New Track '(Drop Dead) Beautiful'

Snippet of the party song hit the Web over the weekend.By Jocelyn Vena

Another day, another Britney Spears Femme Fatale tease. This time around Spears is giving fans a preview of her track "(Drop Dead) Beautiful," which features an appearance by newcomer Sabi (although her part doesn't appear in the super-short tease of the song).
Like most of the songs teased off the March 29 release, this track is a party song. While Spears seems to be flirting with some hottie, she's also getting a bit sassy on the track, which was produced by Benny Blanco, Ammo, JMike and Billboard.
Over a rollicking club beat, she sings, "Look at you/ Look at you/ Be my sweetie/ Be my honey tonight/ Look at you/ Look at you/ Be my sweetie/ Be my honey tonight/ 'Cause you're beautiful/ Drop dead."
Over the weekend, some possible lyrics to her track "I Wanna Go" also hit the Web. On the song, she reportedly sings, "Lately I've been stuck imagining/ What I wanna do and what I really think/ Time to blow out, be a little inappropriate/ 'Cause I know that everybody's thinking it/ When the light's out/ Shame on me, to need to release uncontrollably."
Those weren't the only lyrics hitting the Internet. The lyrics to her song "Inside Out" also dropped on Sunday. On the sexy breakup track, Spears sings, "Said you're gonna be here in two minutes/ Sitting in the mirror getting ready/ Gotta look my best if I wanna break up/ Gotta look my best if I wanna break up/ I can hear you knocking at the back door/ And I know exactly what you're here for/ Trying to say goodbye but I'm not that ready/ Trying to say goodbye but I'm not that ready."
While the couple seems to be on the verge of a breakup, there's apparently still some sexual tension. "You ... touch me and it's turning me on/ I'm telling you, let's just do it all and get down/ So come on/ Won't you give me something to remember?/ Baby shut your mouth and turn me inside out/ Even though we thought we'd last forever/ You got what I want right now."

Beyonce, Leonardo DiCaprio Lead Flurry Of Movie Remakes

Russell Brand, Willow Smith, Jonah Hill are just a few stars looking to revamp film and TV classics like 'Arthur', 'Annie' and '21 Jump Street.'By Terri Schwartz

Beyoncé

What do Willow Smith and Beyoncé have in common with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Kenny Wormald? They're all starring (or in talks to star) in the latest round of remakes of beloved films and TV shows coming down the pike.
On Thursday, news broke that Beyoncé would be starring in a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of the 1976 Barbra Streisand classic "A Star Is Born" (which was a remake of a 1954 movie that remade a 1937 film). In the meantime, Will Smith is reportedly petitioning Sony to remake "Annie" (the 1982 movie and 1977 musical) starring his 10-year-old daughter, Willow, best known for whipping her hair.
In October it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and best bud Tobey Maguire would be starring in Baz Luhrmann's 3-D retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby," with Carey Mulligan joining as Daisy Buchanan.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been working on bringing the '80s Johnny Depp-starring television series "21 Jump Street" to the big screen since 2008, and they might even get Depp to cameo in it in time for the film's March 16, 2012, release date.
And let's not forget the long hunt for a Ren McCormack (the character Kevin Bacon made famous in 1984), after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford dropped out of the planned "Footloose" remake that finally landed dancer Kenny Wormald the role of his life.
Then there's "Arthur," the Russell Brand-starring remake of the 1981 screwball comedy about a happily drunk millionaire who risks everything for love. The film has tapped everyone from Helen Mirren to Greta Gerwig and Nick Nolte.
Two recently announced remakes are "Lethal Weapon" and "The Wizard of Oz," which are still in early development and without stars attached. Warner Bros. announced their plans to reboot the Mel Gibson-starring franchise on Thursday and tapped writer Will Beall to pen the script with completely new characters. And director Robert Zemeckis announced back in November that he planned on remaking the 1939 Technicolor classic using the script from the original film, with Warner Bros. hoping Robert Downey Jr. will play Oz.
Just this past year, films from "Clash of the Titans" to "The Karate Kid" to "A Nightmare on Elm Street" were remade for the big screen and were well-received by audiences. "Alice in Wonderland" and "Clash of the Titans" went on to become two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2010, while "Piranha 3D" and "The A-Team" also went on to strong successes, proving that there definitely is a market for these kinds of remakes.

David and Victoria Beckham: It's a Girl!

Adding a little diversity to their brood, David and Victoria Beckham have proudly announced that a little girl is on the way.
The former Spice Girl has previously voiced her desire to add a daughter to her brood of boys and even admitted she would be willing to birth a fifth child if their imminent new arrival turned out to be another son.
Currently mother to three boys, Romeo, Cruz and Brooklyn, Posh recently said of her daughterly wishes, "(If I) don't have a girl this time, then maybe I'll be lucky enough and have a girl the next time."
Fortunately enough, Mrs Beckham got her wish for a little lady - as a family rep responded to rumors of the baby on the way being a girl, simply stating, "Yes, it is true."

Lindsay Lohan Admits To Failing Drug Test

And THIS is why early discharges from rehab are generally a bad idea {sigh}. Lindsay Lohan confessed on twitter that she had, indeed, failed a drug test.
Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test and if I am asked, I am prepared to appear before judge Fox next week as a result.
TMZ is now reporting that Lindsay actually failed two drug tests. In addition to landing her in jail, this setback could also further derail Lindsay's career, according to TMZ.
Lindsay is now relying on Judge Elden Fox to allow her to leave California to shoot "Inferno" in Louisiana and possibly fly to New York City for "Saturday Night Live."
Here's the problem. Sources connected with the case have been telling TMZ ... if Lindsay were to fail a drug test the judge would probably pull the plug on out-of-state-travel -- a privilege for Lindsay, not a right.
...But all bets are off now that Lindsay has flunked two tests.
And sources close to Lindsay somehow already know the big wigs on "Inferno" are pissed that she may have screwed up again, so flying to Louisiana may be a moot question.
You can't really blame the 'Inferno' producers for being upset. It looks like the best thing for Lindsay at this point is a long-term stay in an inpatient facility that focuses solely on drug abuse (not drug problems and psychiatric problems, which is what the UCLA program did).
This is really just TOO sad.

Paris Hilton Accepts Plea Deal

Paris Hilton does it again. E! News reports that the celebutante has accepted a plea deal that includes pleading guilty to misdemeanor drug possession and obstructing an officer.
In return, she avoids being charged with felony cocaine possession and gets two consecutive six-month jail sentences suspended. Translation: Paris won't have to spend a night in jail.

"We fashioned a resolution which would give us complete control over her future," Clark County District Attorney David Roger told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "If she does not toe the line and stay out of trouble, she will do one year in the Clark County Detention Center."
Paris reportedly will enter her plea on Monday. She will be on probation for one year, have to complete a drug abuse program, pay a fine of $2000, and complete 200 hours of community service (brace yourself for those pictures- LOL).
Does this sound fair to you or do you want to see Paris serve some time? Honestly, I think you could stick Paris in jail for five years, and it wouldn't change a thing.

Rick Ross Lining Up Maybach Music Roster For Self Made

Miami don tweets Wale, Meek Mill and Pill set to appear on compilation album due May 24.By Alvin Blanco

Rick Ross is wasting no time in getting his Maybach Music Group rolling. The Miami rap don announced that he's releasing a compilation album called Self Made that will be in stores May 24.
The Bawse delivered the news about the new album via Twitter, including his latest signees — DC rapper Wale, Philadelphia's Meek Mill and Atlanta MC Pill — in the tweet.
After a bidding war that included Bryan "Baby" Williams' Cash Money Records and Sean "Diddy" Combs' Bad Boy Records, the Def Jam artist decided to pass on aligning with another hip-hop mogul, choosing instead to partner with the Warner Music Group to distribute his Maybach Music Group imprint.
"We are thrilled to be in business with Rick Ross," said Todd Moscowitz, co-president and CEO of Warner Bros. Records, in a statement last month. "We were drawn to his hustle. Ross is an entrepreneur who built his company from the ground up. He's a music magnate, a lightning rod, and an empire builder. Our partnership with him is about building a brand that endures. We back his vision all the way and are ready to give him the resources he needs to pursue that vision."
Of the aforementioned artists, Wale was the first to sign with the Bawse's label, followed by Meek Mill and Pill, who was already a Warner artist.
Other acts on MMG include Gunplay, Torch and Young Breed of rap group Triple Cs as well as R&B singer Masspike Miles. Last July, Rick Ross released his fourth solo album, Teflon Don, which featured the hits "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)" and "Aston Martin Music" as well as the street anthem "MC Hammer."
Beginning March 18, Ross will be heading out on the road with Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Travis Barker for the I Am Music II Tour.

Lady Gaga Tears Up While Singing With Fan Maria Aragon

Gaga brings YouTube star onstage with her during tour stop in Toronto.By Jocelyn Vena

When 10-year-old Maria Aragon posted a video of herself on YouTube covering Lady Gaga's latest pop smash, "Born This Way," she probably had no idea what kind of opportunity the video would lead to.
It all started on February 17, when Gaga tweeted her praise for the young singer's cover of her track. "Can't stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future," she wrote.
The love affair culminated in Gaga bringing the young Canadian fan onstage with her during her tour stop in Toronto. Gaga even posted a photo of them together backstage, making monster paws, each wearing T-shirts with the other's image on it. Gaga shared, "Myself +10 year Old Lady Maria of Winnipeg. She signed my t-shirt, she ate my heart, just like you."
In footage posted online, the crowd went crazy as the young singer took the stage decked out in a black leather jacket, a pink hoodie, sparkling black leggings and high-top sneakers. Gaga gave her a big hug, then sat down at the piano and put the girl on her lap as they sang "Born This Way" together.
"Maria represents what this song is all about," Gaga told the excited crowd. "It's all about the next generation and the future."
As the pair sang the track acoustically, Gaga became visibly moved by the performance and tears began to form in her eyes. When the song ended, Aragon held up her stuffed orange monkey as she told the crowd, "I just want to thank all of you for your support. I hope you enjoyed it. Also, a shout-out to all my friends in Winnipeg and my family."
Gaga continued to tear up as Aragon made her way offstage, telling the room, "Little monsters, thank Maria from Winnipeg."

OK! I've seen the future

The spirit guide behind the gossipAt risk of sounding like one of those Guardian hacks who failed Julian Assange's mysterious but foolproof Masculinity Test, Lost in Showbiz believes Britain's greatest journalism lies in its celebrity gossip magazines. It thrills to the fearlessly provocative op ed column by Kerry Katona beneath the strapline Telling It Like It Is ? And Then Some!: "I've been asked what I think of Katie Price's daughter getting burnt in a sauna," she writes. "I'm not commenting on that." Reeling from the two-fisted assault that is Kerry Katona Telling It Like It Is, Lost in Showbiz can only gawp at the attention-grabbing headlines. Its favourite this year was Hello! magazine's imperious A WEDDING DRESS FOR KATE? It liked the way the question implied she might walk down the aisle in something other than a wedding dress, as if she might rock up at Westminster Abbey in a Hawaiian shirt or a Doncaster Rovers away strip. But this week it faced a challenge from OK! magazine, whose cover has a photo of Cheryl Cole and her mysterious "close friend" Derek Hough beneath the headline: SHOCK PREDICTION! DEREK: "I FEAR CHERYL WILL GO BACK TO ASHLEY." Closer investigation reveals that it is not Derek Hough making the prediction, but Lost in Showbiz's favourite celebrity psychic, Derek Acorah. He's acting on a hot tip from his Ethiopian spirit guide Sam, who recently predicted William and Kate will be "like Anthony And Cleopatra", which as far as Lost in Showbiz can gather means she'll fake her own suicide, causing first one of his aides to kill himself, then him to do the same, before killing herself: way to harsh the whole Royal Wedding's mellow, Captain Bringdown! Having offed half the royal family, he's now suggesting Cheryl and Ashley will reunite: "I guarantee ? and I've checked with Sam ? they'll get together and have a child," he says, noting that he predicted they would have one last year, but drawing a veil over his prediction two months ago that Cheryl would meet another man. Lost in Showbiz professes to bafflement, but perhaps that's the world of the paranormal for you. Caught singing for tyrants? Don't be embarrassed. Do what 50 Cent does: embrace it | Charlie Brooker

The list of stars who have performed for the Gaddafi clan is impressive, but few have gone quite as far as rapper 50 CentA huge source of frustration for any performing artist is that you can't choose your fans. And the more popular you get, the more likely it is you'll attract people you can't stand. Kurt Cobain so disliked the uncool non-underground types who began showing up at Nirvana gigs after the release of their debut album Bleach that he wrote the song In Bloom, which attacks an unnamed moronic jock type who dares to enjoy Nirvana's music: "He's the one who likes all our pretty songs," goes the chorus. "And he likes to sing along, and he likes to shoot his gun ? but he knows not what it means."Yeah! Take that, you mainstream douche bags! Feeling pretty stupid now, huh?Well, no. They weren't. Partly because they knew not what it meant, but largely because Cobain foolishly gave the song a catchy melody, and then compounded this error by including it on an album of other catchy melodies called Nevermind, which became such a massive mainstream success that he never truly lived it down, at least in his own head. And it soon turned out the despised jock fan wasn't the only one prone to discharging the occasional firearm.Still, if Cobain was tortured by the presence of the occasional macho numbskull at his gigs, imagine how awful he'd feel if he looked out and saw a member of the Gaddafi dynasty moshing to Smells Like Teen Spirit. Chances are he'd have beaten himself to death with his own guitar right there and then. But many of the planet's current pop stars are clearly made of sterner stuff. They're so unconcerned about the suitability of their fans, they'll put on a private show for the Gaddafi clan at the drop of a hat. A hat full of money. Now the blood's started flowing they're getting contrite about the whole thing. First Nelly Furtado outed herself, announcing on Twitter that in 2007 she'd been given $1m to perform for the Gaddafis, and was now donating the sum to charity.Other stars who attended Gaddafi dynasty parties include Mariah Carey, Usher, Lionel Richie, and Jay-Z ? who, thanks to the bad publicity, now has 100 problems.Mr Z's wife, Beyonc, reportedly received $2m to perform at a New Year party thrown by Hannibal Gaddafi, but subsequently gave the money to Haiti. "Once it became known that the third-party promoter was linked to the Gaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause," said her publicist. Fair enough. She probably didn't realise the Gaddafis were behind the bash, although her husband reportedly attended an identical party at the same venue the previous year ? at which, it is claimed, Mariah Carey sang four songs in exchange for $1m. The Gaddafi link was exposed in the press at the time, but only in small-circulation newspapers such as the Sun, so it's fair to assume Beyonc's advisers had no idea where the cash was coming from.Libya would be a good growth market for Beyonc, incidentally, as, thanks to the Gaddafi regime, it now contains far more Single Ladies than it used to.Another famous star who reportedly performed for the Gaddafis is notorious pussy 50 Cent, the crybaby pant-shitting wuss whom I could definitely have in a fight. (Did you know his real name is Fifi Millicent? Don't tell him I told you, because he's terribly sensitive about it, and weeps huge cowardly tears out of his gutless baby eyes whenever it's mentioned. Also, he was born a girl.)Fifi was paid an undisclosed sum to sing and dance like a fey little puppet in front of Mutassim Gaddafi at the 2005 Venice film festival. But while the other stars have been embarrassed by their (possibly unintentional) connection to a despotic regime, Fifi seems to have used his as the inspiration for a startlingly violent video game called 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2009.The game opens with Fifi Millicent performing a gig in an unnamed war-torn Middle Eastern country, in exchange for a $10m fee. When the mysterious promoter shows signs of not coughing up the money, Fifi and chums storm backstage, call him a "motherfucker" and shove a shotgun in his face. Terrified, he hands them a priceless Damien Hirst-style diamond-encrusted skull. Fiddy and co then bravely head for the airport in their armoured Hummers, only to be ambushed by armed insurgents. During the gunfire and confusion, a sexy woman appears from nowhere and steals the precious skull. "Bitch took my skull," whines Fifi, before embarking on an awesome odyssey of violence across the troubled Arabic nation, shooting and murdering anyone who gets in his way.Who'd have thought someone like 50 Cent could lend his name to something so crass and stupid? It's almost as if he's an idiot. Still, perhaps openly embracing the despotic crossover in a video game is the way forward. How long before we see a game called Gaddafi Hero, in which you perform a series of upbeat numbers for Middle Eastern tyrants by pushing coloured buttons on a plastic guitar in time to the beat, while trying to drown out the nagging voice of your own conscience and the furious chants of the oppressed?Suggested tracklisting: While My Qatar Gently Weeps; Gimme Gimme Gimme Oman After Midnight; Insane in the Bahrain; Here Comes Yemen; and 50 Ways To Libya Lover. 'American Idol' Report Card: James Durbin Joins Pia Toscano At The Top

Many of the top 13 stumbled this week, and we're not grading on a curve.By Eric Ditzian

Photo: FOX

Listen up, "American Idol" students! You've got to show up to class every single week, and by that we don't just mean filling a seat onstage and snoozing through the competition. We mean coming prepared. We mean building on previous performances, displaying artistic growth, and wowing us anew.
Alas, that's not what happened with most of the "Idol" contestants on Wednesday's (March 9) show, and all we have to say to those slackers is that we're not upset, we're just disappointed. After generally strong performances last week, many of the top 13 stumbled. Now, it's report card time, and it's not going to be pretty.
Excellent
Pia Toscano: First, the excellent news: Pia's got the best set of pipes on the show. Anytime she steps up to the mic and belts out a ballad, she'll sound great, as was the case during her take on Celine Dion's version of "All by Myself." That's why she again stands at the top of the "Idol" class. Now, the tough love: We're honestly wondering if Pia has any setting on her vocal chords other than "wail." She's got to show some artistic range in the coming weeks if she wants to keep earning high marks.

James Durbin: We're as shocked as anyone that Durbin killed it with Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed." We never saw the appeal of this kid up until now, especially after his messy Judas Priest, look-ma-I'm-a-rock-star shtick last week. This time around, he lost the scarf-tail-thingy and embraced his sensitive-rocker side. Who knew it ever existed? More of this, please.
Good
Casey Abrams: A pattern is beginning to emerge with Casey's performances. They start out ordinary enough, then unleash themselves with growls and feelin'-it-dog gyrations. There's a certain predictability to Casey at this point, which is the only reason he misses out on a higher grade. That being said, he's so comfortable onstage, is simply a pleasure to watch and has a voice capable of great phrasing and greater emotive power.
Stefano Langone: This wild-card kid had a lot to prove on Wednesday. And he had a lot to overcome, thanks to a hammy arrangement marred by a Bee Gee-esque backbeat. Nonetheless, his vocals were on point and pleasingly reminiscent of Stevie Wonder during a cover of "Lately." We agree with Jim Cantiello's mother-in-law: Stefano is this season's heartthrob, and he won't be going home this week.
Naima Adedapo: OK, her take on Rihanna's "Umbrella" was kind of a mess. And it was far removed from the jazzy-pop vibe we think is her strength. So how did she make it into "good" territory? For simply being intriguing. She took a big risk — reggae breakdown, people?! — and we sat up and noticed. For every rushed vocal line, there were some nifty dance moves to compensate. We hope this wild card gets to stick around for a while, because in a season filled with predictability, Naima has the potential to surprise us every week.
Satisfactory
Paul McDonald: No one disappointed us on Wednesday like McDonald. He looked borderline creepy up there during Ryan Adams' "Come Pick Me Up." He's got such a beautiful tone and is perhaps the season's most fully formed artist. But this was not McDonald at his finest. Not that you would get that sense from the judges, who uttered the word "love" about 204 times in 203 seconds.
Lauren Alaina: The gal who could seemingly do no wrong on "Idol" was finally dinged by the judges, and she seemed absolutely gutted by the disses, however apologetic they were. The fact is, Lauren's performance of Shania Twain's "Any Man of Mine" — while a very savvy choice — felt flat. There was something missing that we can't quite put on finger on. Maybe she was just tired? She's not going anywhere, though, fan favorite that she is.
Haley Reinhart: Just because you make a strong vocal choice, that doesn't mean it was a wise or ear-pleasing one. The yodels? Not a good call, unless Haley was actually attempting to sound like a beached whale.
Thia Megia: The teen took Michael Jackson into Billie Holliday land, and while we did, as always, enjoy her beautiful tone, "Smile" just seemed like the wrong song choice. The arrangement, too, was all sorts of wrong, once the tempo sped up. Thia should've embraced someone like Adele, as we previously suggested.
Scotty McCreery: Though Scotty stood on the "Idol" stage like everyone else, this performance felt phoned in. Dare we say there was something almost lazy about his croon-by-numbers rendition of Garth Brooks' "The River"? Show us something new, Scotty, because we're getting a bit bored.
Unsatisfactory
Ashton Jones: She's in big trouble this week. After getting a wild-card berth in the top 13, she slipped badly while doubling-down on being a diva. Diana Ross never warbled like this. Ashton opened her arms wide while singing, as if to hug the home audience, and we have a feeling the voters will not be returning her embrace.
Jacob Lusk: We were hoping for a breakout performance from Lusk; what we got instead was a breakdown. He zoomed from 0 to 60 without pausing long enough to let us strap on a seat belt. Perhaps his strategy was that if he shouted long and loudly enough, we wouldn't realize what a terrible arrangement he had to contend with, complete with a low-rent, drum-machine effect. Well, we did. Jacob's not going anywhere— he remains too likable — but he'll have to step up next week.
Karen Rodriguez: Might this be the end of the line for Karen? There were pitch problems galore, especially, but sadly not limited to, her lower register. Jimmy Iovine was worried about her vocal strength for good reason: She simply didn't have the power to take on this Selena song, and she might be going home because of it.

How a Thai village is prospering after the tsunami

On the shores of an abandoned village in southern Thailand, a child's brown shoe resists the pull of the froth-crested waves. The sun beats down on a small cluster of scrawny cattle grazing nearby.

Not a soul is visible. An eerie quiet cloaks the area. A faded sign warns, ?Tsunami hazard zone: In case of earthquake, go to high ground or inland.?

This place used to be Ban Talae Nok village. But more than six years after the tsunami of 2004, its former inhabitants are still afraid to return.

Ban Talae Nok was a tiny community whose name translates as ?Far from the sea.? Many here would have wished that had been true, before the December 26 tsunami drowned thousands in this part of Thailand.read more

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller': Story Behind The 'Glee' Cover

MJ classic is mashed up with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' 'Heads Will Roll' for post-Super Bowl episode.By Aly Semigran

"Glee"

Madonna, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and now, finally, Michael Jackson. The cast of "Glee" has covered plenty of icons during their first two seasons, but it's taken 33 episodes to get around to the King of Pop.
With a huge catalog of Jackson songs, the singing, dancing students of McKinley High paid homage to the late singer with one of his biggest staples (and, arguably, the greatest music video of all time) with their take on "Thriller."

The groundbreaking single from Jackson's best-selling album of the same name was mashed up with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Heads Will Roll" for the post-Super Bowl episode (titled "The Sue Sylvester Bowl Shuffle"), featuring a zombie-fied "Glee" cast.
Bound to become a smash all over again (though with its nonstop rotation at Halloween parties and wedding receptions until the end of time, it's never truly gone away), here's a brief history of the dance/pop classic.
Released on January 23, 1984, "Thriller" was the seventh, and final, single to be released from Jackson's smash record. According to the RIAA, the album (released by Epic Records) has gone gold 29 times, narrowly edging out the Eagles' Greatest Hits 1971-1975 for the title of best-selling album of all time.
In 2009, MTV News estimated that the Thriller album was poised to go triple diamond, meaning 30 million records sold in the U.S. alone.
After Thriller's other singles (including "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and "Wanna Be Startin' Something") dominated the charts, it was time for the spooky, undeniably original track to take over. The song "Thriller" also appeared on many of Jackson's other albums, including the compilations HIStory and Number Ones.
Clocking in at a little under six minutes (though the radio edit was closer to four-and-a-half), the song features pop-music mainstays like synthesizers but shakes things up with its spooky sound effects, including creaking floors, howling and thunder.
The song was produced by Quincy Jones and written and composed by Rod Tempterton and spent 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #4.
But it's the music video for "Thriller" that truly made it the phenomenon it was in the '80s and continues to be today. Less a music video than a mini-motion picture, the video (over 13 minutes long and directed by John Landis) won three MTV Video Music Awards and has been named the best music video of all time by many outlets, including VH1 for the special "VH1: 100 Greatest Videos."
The chiller features Jackson in that iconic red leather jacket on a date with his girlfriend (played by Ola Ray) before things go terribly awry. After all, as Jackson (whose disclaimer at the start of the video reads, "This film in no way endorses a belief in the occult") sings in the opening line, "It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark." Cue werewolves, zombies, Vincent Price's soliloquy and one of the most memorable dance sequences ever.
The video was (no pun intended) a monster hit. As the Los Angeles Times notes, "At the height of the song's popularity, MTV would run the 14-minute 'Thriller' video twice an hour."
Choreographed by Jackson and Michael Peters (who, as the LA Times also reported, appears in the video as one of the zombies) and with makeup by Oscar-winner Rick Baker (also an undead "Thriller" extra) was made with a huge budget of an estimated $500,000.
Still, the efforts paid off. Landis (who told the "Today" show back in 2009 that no one wanted to give them the funds to make the risky vid) made the accompanying 45-minute documentary about the venture, called "The Making of Thriller." Featuring the behind-the-scenes wizardry, as well as the music video in full, it would go on to move more than 10 million copies.
Since then, the signature song and video have seen their share fair of tributes in movies (notably in the 2004 comedy"13 Going on 30") and TV ("South Park," "Family Guy," "30 Rock," among others), not to mention the countless flash mobs that have gone viral. (Remember the prisoners in the Philippines who became overnight phenomenons on YouTube?)
Even with the "Glee" number, this likely won't be the last incarnation of "Thriller." Billboard reported in October that a "Thriller" film is in the works. With a plot allegedly revolving around Price's narration, Kenny Ortega, who directed Jackson's last effort, "This Is It," will reportedly helm the project.
Since Jackson's untimely passing on June 25, 2009, the song and video's legacy continue to live on. In the week following Jackson's death, "Thriller" was the best-selling track in the U.S., with sales of 167,000 copies on the Billboard Hot Digital Singles chart.
Then, in December 2009, "Thriller" was the first music video to ever be inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. It seems "no mere mortal can resist ... the thriller" after all.
What did you think of the "Thriller" mash-up on "Glee"? Let us know in the comments!

Britney Spears Explains Her Definition Of Femme Fatale

'The bitch is back and better than ever!' the pop singer jokingly declares in her new V magazine cover story.By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears

Photo: V Magazine

Britney Spears' spread in V magazine finally hit newsstands on Thursday (March 3). In the cover story, in which Spears opens up about her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale, the star also chats about what qualities define that mysterious type of woman.
She says, "[A femme fatale is] a woman who is sexy and strong, dangerous and mysterious, cool and confident."
As displayed in a number of song teases and even first single "Hold It Against Me," Femme Fatale certainly has an emphasis on club bangers. And Spears reveals in the V chat which tune off the album she's most looking forward to having fans hear. "I really love 'On the Rocks' because it sounds so different from anything I have ever heard," she explains. "It's so cool and quirky."
The decision to make a dance record mostly came from Spears, who admits that she prefers to make tunes that will get fans out on the floor. "I like music that makes you move and connects with your soul. I like to feel inspired right away when I listen to new music," she says. "I always have songs being sent to me from new artists and producers from all over the world, which is really cool. From there I just follow my heart."
Spears certainly has a strong message for her fans, and perhaps even for the critics who may wonder if the star still has what it takes to compete in an overpopulated pop universe. Her message for them: "That the bitch is back and better than ever!"
She continues, "I love making new music for my fans, I love performing for my fans, and most importantly, I love my fans. I am so lucky to have their support. They drive me."
Also in the issue, Spears talks about the media scrutiny she's endured in recent years, as well as discussing her life now as both a pop star and a mom to her two young sons. "I'm past all of that. I try to block it all out and not pay attention to anything they write about me in the magazines or online. I'm done with that," she explains. "I think it's easier to let people in when you're younger, but when I became a mother I wanted more privacy for myself and my children. A life away from my life."
Spears insists that she has no plans to fade into obscurity anytime soon, while admitting that she would focus on motherhood if she had never become a pop star. "I'd be a full-time mom, which would be cool. I'd miss my fans and all of the love the most, but I definitely would not miss having my picture taken everywhere I go," she says. :I wouldn't miss showering in arenas either. So gross!"
So how would she like to be remembered in the future? "[I hope my legacy is] two amazing boys and a lot of music that hopefully brings a lot of people a lot of happiness," she explains.

Kanye West Recruits Drake, Big Sean For 'All Of The Lights' Remix

Kanye West has been quiet, by his standards, ever since releasing his last album, and most assume the MC/producer went off the radar to finish working on his collaboration album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne.
But now, it seems, 'Ye has more in store than just his project with Hov. According to a tweet by Los Angeles spin doctor DJ Franzen, West has recruited Big Sean and Drake for the remix to his current single, "All of the Lights."
"Drizzy murdered the 'All of the Lights' remix with @kanyewest," the DJ wrote. "He played it at the Suite Party last night! I heard it 1st last Sat."
A verse from the Thank Me Later star originally appeared on an early version of "All of the Lights" that landed online before the release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But on the album version, Drake is one of a many vocalists, including Rihanna, Elton John, Fergie, La Roux, John Legend and more, and his voice is indistinguishable from the others on the track.
Drake's earlier verse will reportedly be replaced with a new set of rhymes for the remix, according to Complex magazine.
Last last year, in an interview with Eminem's Shade 45 satellite radio show, Drake talked about his "All of the Lights" contribution not making Yeezy's album.
"Kanye's creative process is ever-changing," Drake explained. "We make music differently. I make what comes to me and I hate changing it, whereas 'Ye will change something 30 or 40 times to get it perfect. To each their own, and the change was to put all those people on it, and I wasn't one of them. That's completely OK."
Check out what fans are already saying about anticipating the "All of the Lights" remix on Rapfix.

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Ordered To Stand Trial

Murray faces manslaughter charges in the singer's death; his medical license has also been suspended.By Kara Warner

Dr. Conrad Murray has been ordered to stand trial for manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson.
According to The Associated Press, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor made the decision after a six-day preliminary hearing during which witnesses testified that the Houston cardiologist administered a dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol and other sedatives then left the pop star unmonitored.
During the course of the hearing, testimony was given that Murray ordered hundreds of bottles of propofol in the months before Jackson's death. The AP report also cited the fact that the prosecutors concluded their case with testimony from two doctors who said Murray acted outside the standard of medical care when he administered propofol and failed to provide proper care.
Other damning testimony included that of Jackson's bodyguard, who said that on the morning of the singer's death, it appeared that Murray didn't know how to administer CPR to his dying patient.
Judge Pastor also granted a request by the California Medical Board to suspend Murray's license to practice medicine in the state. Pastor said he made the decision in the interest of public safety and ordered Murray to notify every district in which he practices of the decision within 24 hours. Murray has clinics in Houston and Las Vegas.
Murray, 57, has pleaded not guilty, and his attorneys have argued that he did not give Jackson anything that should have killed him. Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

Beyonce Donated Gadhafi Money To Haiti Relief Last Year

Music industry urges other stars who played for Libyan dictator's family to donate their earnings.By Gil Kaufman

Just days after singer Nelly Furtado announced that she planned to donate to charity money she received for playing a concert for the family of Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, a spokesperson for Beyoncé said that the "Halo" singer had already done the same.
Documents obtained by the WikiLeaks website revealed that stars including Beyoncé, Usher and Mariah Carey had played big-paycheck gigs for Gadhafi. On Monday, Rolling Stone magazine reported that the industry was urging the stars (noting that rapper 50 Cent had also played such gigs) to return the money they earned for the concerts.
"They've done it for tons of artists," an unnamed music-business source told the magazine about lavish parties by Gadhafi's son, Muatassim, which are reportedly often "jammed" with supermodels. "Those guys are all over the world."
On Wednesday, a rep for Beyoncé — who played a New Year's Eve gig for Muatassim with Usher on the Caribbean island of St. Barts in 2009 — told the Huffington Post that the singer had long ago resolved the matter.
"All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year's Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti over a year ago," her publicist said. "Once it became known that the third-party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause."
The money was donated to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, established in the wake of last year's devastating earthquake, and a spokesperson for the fund confirmed that it received the $1 million check in the weeks after the January 2010 earthquake.
According to her official Twitter feed, Canadian pop star Nelly Furtado confirmed on Monday that she once did a show for the dictator's family and now plans to donate the money to charity. "In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Gadhafi clan to perform a 45 min. show for guests at a hotel in Italy," she wrote on Monday. "I am going to donate the $."
The star-studded shows were part of the extravagant lifestyle of the dictator's sons, whose splashy parties and out-of-control spending have angered their countrymen, many of whom wallow in poverty as the Gadhafi clan benefits from the country's oil riches.
